Japan funds Cambodia’s National Data Centre
The centre is expected to be fully operational by 2025 to digitalise the country’s administrative services.
The Japanese government has agreed to provide a grant aid worth about $16m to fund Cambodia’s National Data Centre as part of its digitisation plan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan said the two Asian nations sealed the Agreement during the recent Japan-Cambodia Summit Meeting held in Tokyo in December 2023.
The grant is intended for the equipment and construction necessary for Cambodia’s National Data Centre which will be used to support the digitalisation of the country's administrative services.
In January 2022, the Cambodian government unveiled its program called “Digital Government Policy 2022-2035” which aims to fully digitise Cambodia’s operations by 2023.
“This project aims to develop the electronic infrastructure and to improve administrative services of the government by providing equipment related to the construction of the National Data Centre that will be the core of Cambodia's digital government, and to support the development of digital economy and society in Cambodia,” the statement said.
Also agreed at the summit was a grant of up to $6.9m each for Cambodia’s two other projects namely the development of a digital management system for water supply facilities in the Metropolitan area, and the construction of a hydrographic survey vessel for preparing electronic navigational chart.
