PH telcos face lower mobile voice service revenue
Decline due to shift towards app-based calling.
Telecom operators in the Philippines are forecast to see a decrease in mobile voice service revenue for the 2024-2029 period.
The expected decline is attributed to the ongoing downward trend in mobile voice service average revenue per user (ARPU) levels as a result of consumers switching to online or app-based communication platforms.
Telcos bundling free voice minutes within service plans also contributes to the lower ARPU levels.
Meanwhile, the growth in mobile internet subscriptions will mean higher mobile data service revenue for Philippine telecom companies.
Mobile data service revenue is estimated to post a compound annual growth rate of 7.1% until 2029, according to GlobalData. Similarly, fixed broadband service revenue is expected to rise whilst fixed voice service revenue falls.
As for who's leading the market, GlobalData Telecom Analyst Kantipudi Pradeepthi had this to say: "Globe Telecom and PLDT will remain market leaders, by subscription share through the forecast period given their strong focus on mobile network expansion and modernisation efforts."
