PH telecom and pay-TV revenues to hit $8.7b by 2028

Mobile data and fixed broadband services will drive revenue growth for the telecom sector.

The Philippines' telecom and pay-TV services revenue will grow at a compound annual rate of 1.1%, hitting US$8.7b in 2028 from US$8.2b in 2023, analytics firm GlobalData reported.

Within the telecom sector, GlobalData expects mobile data and fixed broadband services revenues to continue growing.

Increasing mobile internet subscriptions, particularly on 4G/5G networks, will drive growth for mobile data services.

“4G services accounted for a majority share of the overall mobile subscriptions in 2023 in the Philippines. While 4G will remain the leading mobile technology generation by subscriber volume through to 2027, its share in total mobile subscriptions will gradually drop as 5G service adoption increases,” said Sarwat Zeeshan, telecom analyst at GlobalData.

For fixed broadband service revenue, GlobalData forecasts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5%, driven by growth in fibre and fixed-wireless subscriptions amid efforts to expand broadband connectivity.

In contrast, the fixed communication services segment and fixed voice service revenue will decline due to continued losses in circuit-switched subscriptions and a drop in fixed voice Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Meanwhile, pay-TV services revenue in the country will increase due to growth in Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) subscriptions and a steady rise in DTH subscriptions.
