Telecom API market to reach $1.4b by 2034
Growth is driven by 5G and AI.
The telecom application programming interface (API) market is projected to exceed $1.4b by 2034 from more than $318.6m currently, according to Global Market Insights.
The research firm said the shift towards standalone 5G networks is pushing operators to move from hardware-heavy systems to cloud-native platforms built around APIs, opening up new revenue opportunities through services for developers and enterprises.
It said businesses are also adopting API-driven architectures to support real-time communications, unify digital channels, and automate customer interactions with artificial intelligence.
The rise of Communications Platform as a Service, or CPaaS, is also helping companies add programmable communications tools without building their own telecom infrastructure.
Voice APIs generated $103.2m in 2024, with demand supported by customer interaction, authentication, reminders, and alerts, as well as the migration of traditional contact centres to cloud environments.
The enterprise developers segment held a 43% share in 2024, which the firm attributed to digital transformation and the broader adoption of low-code and no-code tools.
The US market held an 86% share in 2024 and generated $93.7m, with Global Market Insights saying demand was supported by security-focused telecom API frameworks and compliance requirements.
Companies named in the market include Bandwidth, Telesign, Sinch, AT&T, Nokia, Twilio, Infobip, Plivo, Vonage, and MessageBird.
