Lao Telecommunication Public Company wins at Asian Telecom Awards 2025
The company’s award was in recognition of its milestones in connectivity, fintech, and community support.
Lao Telecommunication Public Company (Lao Telecom) emerged as the recipient of the Telecom Company of the Year - Laos accolade at the Asian Telecom Awards 2025 for bringing innovative technologies and solutions to Laos.
Lao Telecom, which was founded in 1996 and celebrated its 28th anniversary in 2024, continues to lead the way with significant advancements in 5G connectivity, fintech, and community service.
Lao Telecom made significant strides in 2024 in terms of expanding its network. In that year, the company introduced 5G connectivity across Vientiane and parts of Luang Prabang, alongside a major expansion of its 4G network. The company increased its 4G coverage from 72% to 78% of the country, with plans to reach 90% by 2026. This goal aligns with the government’s goal to provide universal communication access for all citizens.
As the host of the ASEAN meetings in 2024, the Lao government also relied on Lao Telecom to ensure seamless communication throughout the events—proof of its key role in supporting the country’s telecom infrastructure.
Moreover, Lao Telecom also launched its M-Money Next app, which was a milestone in the fintech sector. This platform provides a convenient and secure way for both locals and visitors to make payments. M-Money Next partners with major financial institutions for easy transactions through QR codes at participating merchants.
M-Money Next also integrates with Laos’ national QR Code network, giving users the ability to perform transactions with participating banks. The app has simplified tax payments by connecting directly to the government’s revenue department with secure data transmission and robust security features.
M-Money Next, which is the leading non-bank e-wallet in Laos, makes financial services more inclusive. The platform has been especially beneficial for Lao workers abroad, allowing them to send money home to their families.
In 2024, M-Money Next saw a 150% increase in revenue compared to 2023, with nearly 900,000 users or over 12% of the country’s population.
Lao Telecom also values its commitment to the community aside from business achievements. During the severe flooding in September and October 2024, the company supported relief efforts, worked tirelessly to restore communication services, and provided assistance to those affected by the disaster.
Additionally, it also supported schools and students during the challenging time.
