Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) wins at Asian Telecom Awards 2026

Targeted people and training initiatives support organisational resilience and regional telecommunications readiness.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) won HR Initiative of the Year - Malaysia and Technical Training Initiative of the Year - Malaysia in the Asian Telecom Awards 2026, recognising its structured approach to workforce support and technical capability development.

Recognition under the HR Initiative of the Year - Malaysia reflects the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s Total Rewards Transformation, implemented between 2024 and 2025 to strengthen employee wellbeing, retention, and engagement. The initiative focused on practical enhancements across compensation, benefits, work-life support, recognition, and career development.

Enhancements addressed cost-of-living pressures through expanded childcare support, higher employer EPF contributions, housing interest subsidies, and the introduction of a tax-exempt commuting allowance. Childcare investment increased by more than 400% between 2024 and 2025, alongside the establishment of an internal childcare centre with fees subsidised by up to 90%. Financial resilience was further supported through higher housing loan interest subsidies and standardised mobility assistance across roles and locations.

Operational demands within a high-intensity regulatory environment were addressed through increased hardship, enforcement, shift, accommodation, and mobility allowances, as well as expanded medical coverage. These measures contributed to measurable workforce outcomes, including an 81% engagement score, 87% employee intention to stay, and attrition of 3.02%, significantly below industry levels.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission also won Technical Training Initiative of the Year - Malaysia for its integrated workforce development ecosystem delivered through MCMC Academy. Central to this was the Commission’s leadership of the ASEAN 5G Skills Framework, a regional initiative endorsed by the ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council and funded by the ASEAN ICT Fund. In 2025, more than 200 participants from nine ASEAN countries completed advanced programmes covering 5G security, cloud-native networks, AI readiness, system integration, and early-stage 6G development.

At the organisational level, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission strengthened internal technical capability through the Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulation Series and a skills-first development model anchored by individual development plans. Since 2024, nearly 700 employees have attained industry-recognised certifications, supported by an expanding pool of certified internal trainers. Leadership capability was further developed through regional and industry partnerships, including programmes with Huawei Technologies and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity.
