Vodafone Fiji Pte Limited honoured at Asian Telecom Awards 2025
The company was recognised for helping local businesses thrive through its online marketplace, VitiKart.
Vodafone Fiji Pte Limited brought home the Digital Initiative of the Year - Fiji accolade at the Asian Telecom Awards 2025, highlighting its efficient initiative in providing a ready-made online platform for small businesses to sell their products.
VitiKart, Fiji’s first complete online marketplace, brings together a variety of merchants on a single platform. This allows shoppers to browse and buy a wide range of products from different sellers all in one place. Created by Vodafone Fiji to support local businesses, VitiKart gives small businesses a platform to sell their products online without needing to invest in expensive technology.
VitiKart has also made shopping more convenient and secure for customers, who can now shop from home without visiting physical stores. Shoppers can purchase from multiple merchants in one place as there is a wide variety of products available.
A key feature of VitiKart is its payment flexibility. It is integrated with M-PAiSA, a widely accessible mobile phone-based digital wallet that allows users to make a myriad of cashless payments, including in-person over-the-counter payments, remote payments through the M-PAiSA App, or online payments through an online payment gateway.
This integration has helped Vodafone Fiji generate new revenue streams and improve customer satisfaction whilst supporting business growth across the country.
In December 2023, M-PAiSA hit a significant milestone, processing over $50m in remittances in a single month. In August 2024, this had grown to $62.8m. M-PAiSA now accounts for more than 52% of the total ($1.2b) inward remittances into Fiji. M-PAiSA is also integrated with VitiKart to simplify payments for online purchases, particularly for customers who may not have access to credit cards.
Moreover, VitiKart provides new opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their businesses online. Through a partnership with the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Vodafone Fiji has extended a subsidy programme to help MSMEs use VitiKart and tap into the benefits of e-commerce.
To provide a better shopping experience for its customers, VitiKart will support international shipping to allow local merchants to sell their products to customers worldwide. Additionally, VitiKart is set to introduce AI-powered product recommendations to make it easier for shoppers to find items they like. A new augmented reality feature will also let customers visualise how products will look in their own space before buying.
Furthermore, VitiKart is expanding into the digital realm, allowing customers to purchase digital products like tickets and other recreational services.
