Allo clinches the Broadband Telecom Company of the Year - Malaysia trophy at the 2022 Asian Telecom Awards

The company made Malaysia’s Industrial Revolution 4.0 initiative possible by empowering underserved communities.

Allo Technology (Allo), a telecommunication service provider in Malaysia has been recognised as the Broadband Telecom Company of the Year at the 2022 Asian Telecom Awards.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) – Malaysia’s integrated electricity provider, Allo was awarded for its responsive efforts in bridging the digital divide in the region by providing quality broadband connectivity at an affordable rate, thereby unlocking opportunities for the underserved in suburban and rural communities.

Allo operates an Open-Access network in Malaysia, a neutral, shared infrastructure widely used in more technologically advanced countries such as the United States of America and Sweden, to name a few. Through the Open-Access network, Allo fosters synergy with Retail Service Providers (RSPs) to enable them to expand their digital footprint on a more efficient scale.

“Through the Open-Access model, the network is granted to multiple Service Providers to wholesale services on one physical network infrastructure which enables them to reach the end-users without the need to deploy a new fibre access network themselves, therefore reducing the need of costly redundant infrastructure, explained Rodzi Ahmad, CEO of Allo.

“By leveraging on TNB’s 18,000km of fibre optic network in Peninsular Malaysia, the shared costs make it possible to reach underserved areas, and it is also a feasible way of deploying high-speed broadband (HSBB) where RSPs cannot obtain a sufficient return on investment to cover the high costs of laying their own fibre infrastructure,” he added.

Allo is also keen on further expanding its reach by supplying the untapped demand in the local market, and subsequently empowering Malaysians in underserved areas via various aspects such as digital economy development, education, and community development.

Allo is supporting and contributing to the Government’s Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative (Phase 1: 2020-2022) target of having 7.5 million premise passes by the end of this year.

“We know that the demand for broadband is out there, especially when the world is witnessing an unprecedented pandemic that forces us to quickly adapt to digitalisation. Yet, there are many areas in Malaysia which are still without fibre optic connectivity. By offering a true Open Access model, it enables RSPs to take charge of their digital destiny. Thus, it helps them future-proof their boroughs’ infrastructure for the benefit of its subscribers and the local economy,” Rodzi noted.

Through the company’s dynamic business approach, Allo has struck strategic collaborations with seven RSPs to date, allowing them to expand their footprint thus enabling more users in the suburbs and rural areas to be connected.
