Boldyn Networks enhances the transit system network with 5G infrastructure

It increases network efficiency and reduces interference amongst different mobile network operators.

Hong Kong has one of the busiest and most crowded public transportation systems in the world, serving millions of passenger rides on average every day.

World-leading neutral host provider Boldyn Networks has focused on this particular issue by providing a state-of-the-art 5G infrastructure that empowers telcos to utilise multi-band 5G services to address the network capacity issues prevalent in the region.

The 5G infrastructure allows MNOs to offer competitive and diverse 5G services to their customers. It also increases the network efficiency and reduces the interference amongst different MNOs.

At the same time, the project uses the Golden Band (3.5GHz, n78) and supports a bandwidth of up to 300MHz, ensuring comprehensive coverage in public areas. By harnessing 5G networks operating in the 3.5GHz spectrum, transit passengers can enjoy ultra-fast and low-latency wireless connectivity, improving safety and satisfaction levels, which is not always achievable today.

Boldyn Networks’ solution is the first of its kind to support multi-carrier ENDC technology in public transport environments. The installation faced many difficulties due to complex signal reflection, and signal interference. Boldyn HK overcame these difficulties by using a new radiation cable structure to enable MIMO configuration in 5G n78 for improved performance.

Its successful efforts in ensuring comprehensive coverage in public areas and demonstrating its commitment to connected transit in the region have been acknowledged by the Asian Telecom Awards 2024, as the company takes home the Infrastructure Initiative of the Year  -  Hong Kong category win.

“Reliable connectivity encourages greater use of public transport, reducing vehicle congestion in the city and providing a more sustainable transportation solution. Boldyn’s 5G infrastructure design is dynamic and future-proof, as it can provision the capability of advancing into new NR bands that offer more possibilities for innovation, development, and new use cases,” the company said.

The prestigious awards programme honours businesses and initiatives that have not only driven progress in the telecom industry but have also ignited transformative shifts that have reshaped the digital landscape.
