Integrating convenience into subscription management

Optus wins at this year’s Asian Telecom Awards

The average household pays for around six subscriptions every month, with the average spending per household on OTT media services expected to increase in the foreseeable future. These conditions foster increased competition in the market but also pose an increasingly difficult and complex task of management for household subscribers.

With this in mind, Optus found itself positioned to deliver a solution that can address consumer pain points and launched Optus SubHub in August 2021. The experience is the first-of-its-kind in the subscription space and allows customers to manage their subscriptions to some of the world’s most popular subscription services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount+, BINGE, Microsoft 365, YouTube Premium, Kindle Unlimited, Calm, MasterClass, Optus Sport, BritBox, iwonder, Sweat, inkl news, and iQiyi.

This product has helped Optus win the Digital Initiative of the Year - Australia Award at the 2023 Asian Telecom Awards. The awards programme recognises innovative products and initiatives of telecommunications companies to bring success to their operations, and Optus exalted itself from its competition by releasing SubHub as a one-stop tool for managing the growing number of subscriptions in the lives of consumers.

Optus SubHub stands as a world-first experience, differentiating itself from other subscription management tools by allowing customers to browse and select their preferred subscriptions from a curated list of the most sought-after subscription services. Other products offered only specific OTT bundles instead of letting customers create a tailored package.

Customers have recently found that there were too many subscription choices and that toggling between each service tends to be an errand, as the numerous logins get annoying and multiple payments get harder to track. Using Optus SubHub, customers can now easily manage their subscriptions and place them all under one simple monthly charge, granting better visibility and control over their subscriptions.

Accessing up-to-date and relevant information on their subscriptions has enhanced the customer experience, and has assisted them by making their decision-making process seamless and by helping them save more when managing numerous subscriptions in the SubHub.

Optus SubHub has changed the lives of its users by offering a simplified and easy-to-use clever solution to an evolving subscription landscape whilst also making it appealing with cost savings. It gives the consumer a sense of control over the number of subscriptions and payments that they manage every day.

It comes as no surprise for Optus SubHub users to be praising the platform for its ease of setup, convenience, and value proposition as 50% of customer feedback rates the experience a 9 or 10 in the promoter score. Optus has delivered increased ARPU compared to core telco offerings, as well as strengthened customer lifetime value and retention.

“The team behind SubHub took eighteen months from concept to start-up and the team is extremely excited to be a recipient of the Asian Telecom Awards for 2023. It’s a testament to the work input by the Optus Team and always ensuring that our customers are at the centre of our strategy. There is no playbook to building an innovative, global first product like Optus SubHub to our customers and the best and only way to deliver it has been through a huge amount of collaboration across the company – it’s been fantastic to see and be a part of.”

“The core vision for the product is to unify the growing subscription market by providing flexible options, simple experiences, and value so Australians can get closer to the digital content options they love – now, more than ever is it so important for our customers to easily manage their monthly subscriptions and we’re delighted that we are being recognised for doing just that.”
