Vietnam greenlights Starlink's satellite telecom services
Initial plan to see up to 600,000 user terminals deployed.
SpaceX's Starlink is now licensed to provide low-earth orbit satellite telecommunications services in Vietnam.
The go-ahead for the telco services and network infrastructure came from the Authority of Telecommunications, whilst the use of spectrum and radio equipment was approved by the Radio Frequency Department.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the initial plan is to commercially deploy as much as 600,000 user terminals and four gateway stations.
The SpaceX-owned satellite internet provider will be operated locally by Starlink Services Vietnam Co., Ltd.
In Southeast Asia, Starlink is already available in the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste. Globally, Starlink operates around 6,750 satellites.
