Colt Technology Services wins top telecom prizes in Asian Telecom Awards

The company recently launched cloud-based voice services, connecting over 30,000 buildings.

Asian Telecom Awards 2023 has bestowed Colt Technology Services with top prizes Telecom Solutions Provider of the Year - Japan and Cloud Initiative of the Year - Japan.

The awards programme celebrates Asia's most outstanding telecom companies, recognising their remarkable ground-breaking achievements and initiatives and their ability to navigate market challenges whilst providing award-winning products and services to clients.

Developments in the past year solidified Colt’s position as the partner of choice for Japanese businesses looking to connect to Europe and North America. Firstly, the company secured networks via their SD-WAN SASE solution, offering customers a complete integrated SASE solution. This combines network and security to offer best-in-class protection against modern threats, a timely solution as organisations adapt network infrastructure to new working models.

Colt also recently completed a market data cloud proof-of-concept with AWS, building colocation facilities and testing distribution of raw, multicast market data in the cloud, with the plan to become a pioneer ‘colo in the cloud’ global service to enhance market data services.

Meanwhile, Colt became the first provider to transport 600G wavelengths in a live, long-haul network in Japan, using flex-grid technology in association with Ciena’s DWDM technology. This quadrupled the capacity of the underlying network and underpins customers such as Tencent Cloud. In March 2022, Colt pioneered 800G technology in the L-band across a terrestrial network, now delivering 400GE Wave and Private Wave services in Asia.

In the second quarter of 2022 Colt Technology Services launched Colt Intelligent Communications (CIC) with Cloud Session Border Controller (SBC) in Japan, meaning customers now have access to a cloud-based unified communication solution.  The launch of Colt’s Cloud SBC, allows customers to activate Voice on Teams (Direct Routing), through a cloud-enabled communication solution removing the need for physical hardware, with Voice as a service. Providing a guaranteed quality of performance through Colt as a single provider, and means enterprises can enable their staff to work effectively from any location.

Thanks to network expansions completed over the past year, Colt now connects over 31,000 retail buildings, more than 1,000 data centres, and more than 250 cloud on-ramps. This network includes new PoPs in Asia and Latin America to serve FSI needs and dense metros such as London, where 110km of fibre has been added. Colt has also partnered with Getlink to install its IQ Network through the Channel Tunnel and completed expansion in Seoul, increasing bandwidth to Sydney via sub-sea and metro.
This year, Colt has also partnered with VMware to give customers flexibility through a second SD-WAN offering.
