PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk redefines sustainable infrastructure at Asian Telecom Awards 2026
The company has set a new benchmark for sustainable telecommunications infrastructure.
PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (Mitratel) secured two prestigious titles at the Asian Telecom Awards 2026: Infrastructure Initiative of the Year - Indonesia and Wholesale Company Initiative of the Year - Indonesia.
The recognition celebrates Mitratel’s groundbreaking GFRP Tower Initiative — the first fully specified, certified, and commercialised Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) tower design in Asia. More than a material innovation, the initiative represents a structural shift in how telecom infrastructure can be deployed faster, smarter, and with significantly lower environmental impact.
Unlike conventional steel towers, GFRP towers are constructed from advanced composite materials made of glass fibres and polymer resin. The result is transformative: structures that are 75% lighter, 27% stronger, and 14% more cost-efficient than steel alternatives. Their lightweight design enables crane-free installation, accelerating deployment in rooftop, remote, coastal, and island locations across Indonesia’s diverse terrain.
The operational impact is immediate. Installation timelines are reduced by up to four days compared with traditional methods, enabling faster network roll-out and improved service availability for mobile operators. For wholesale customers expanding coverage in geographically challenging areas, this agility translates directly into competitive advantage.
Sustainability sits at the heart of the initiative. Transitioning from steel to composite materials delivers a 47% reduction in carbon emissions and a 60% reduction in fuel consumption during logistics. Reduced dependence on mineral extraction further reinforces measurable environmental benefits, aligning with Indonesia’s climate commitments and the company’s Net Zero 2060 roadmap.
Initial deployments in Kalimantan and Sulawesi have validated the towers’ reliability and scalability under varied environmental conditions, confirming their readiness for broader adoption nationwide.
Looking forward, PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk has established a 2025–2030 GFRP Roadmap, targeting expansion to 198 sites. The roadmap extends beyond towers, encompassing fibre-optic poles, height extensions to support 4G and 5G densification, and reinforcement solutions for existing infrastructure assets.
By combining engineering innovation with environmental stewardship, the GFRP Tower Initiative strengthens the company’s wholesale proposition — delivering infrastructure that is faster to deploy, easier to maintain, and resilient in high-humidity and coastal environments where corrosion remains a persistent challenge.
