China surpasses 4 million 5G base stations
The number of 5G mobile subscribers hit 966 million in China.
The number of 5G base stations in China had exceeded 4.04m as of the end of August, the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said.
According to the Ministry, the figure accounted for 32.1%of the total number of mobile base stations nationwide.
China now boasts 966 million 5G mobile subscribers following a rapid growth of its 5G network and commercialisation in recent years.
Local operators have been rapidly deploying 5G services and this technology now covers every city and town in the country, as well as more than 90% of its villages, the Chinese government previously said.
The country also claims global leadership in 5G technology, with 42% of the world’s 5G standard essential patent declarations originating from China.
The ministry further noted that the government would continue pushing forward with 5G advancements, aiming to extend coverage to cultural and tourism spots, healthcare centres, universities, transportation hubs and subway systems.
