China’s smartphone market rebounds with 5.6% YoY growth in 2024
It was driven by demand, generative AI, new product launches, and government subsidies.
China's smartphone market rebounded with 5.6% year-on-year growth after two years of decline, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
The country shipped 286.2 million units in 2024 and 76.4 million during the fourth quarter driven by demand, generative AI innovations, new product launches, and government subsidies.
“The recovery is a boon to the smartphone industry, but not all original equipment manufacturers have benefited from the growth as consumers are becoming more selective,” Will Wong, senior research manager for Client Devices at IDC Asia Pacific, said.
“This implies a value-seeking trend that is prevalent not only in China but also globally. Market players need to adapt to this shift in consumer behavior if they want to continue to capitalise on the recovery,” he added.
